We invite you to join us
Now is the time to respond to the need felt by many of us around the world to restore the sacred as an integral part of the human experience. It is time to celebrate our common humanity through the creation of sanctuaries that provide the physical, emotional and spiritual nourishment many seek.
The Sanctuaries for Humanity initiative is about reconnecting with universal love as the foundation of human interaction. This means adopting a holistic approach that touches every aspect of our lives: caring for our fellow human beings; striving for the well-being of all; seeking forgiveness and peace; exploring new models for nutrition; adopting new approaches to healing and education; celebrating creativity; and acting as the guardians of our environment and the many species with whom we share our world.
The Need
The world is going through a transition, a period of upheaval, and humanity is suffering. This is apparent in our personal lives, in our local communities, and in world events. There are so many pressures, uncertainties, and strains. We struggle to find a quiet place within ourselves from which to tackle these challenges. The increase in mental health issues, anxiety, suicide, domestic violence, feelings of alienation, insecurity, and disempowerment point to the fact that something needs to change – and the best place to start is within ourselves. Sanctuaries for Humanity aims to provide a space to meet this need.
Restoring the Sacred
By sacred we mean that which we hold most precious in our inner and outer lives that unites us, inspires us, and arouses in us a sense of awe, rever: ence, love, and gratitude.
"Remember, the entrance door to the sanctuary is inside you" Rumi
Sanctuaries for Humanity in Scotland – Our First Project
The initiative will be launched by the creation of a first Sanctuary for Humanity in Scotland – a haven where visitors can find refuge, renewal and inspiration. Over time, different aspects of human spirituality and endeavour will be explored – individually and collectively – through retreats, workshops, gatherings, or simply through spending time alone.
